The Trek Sahara team return

In March 2009, John Brunning and 34 Classic FM listeners embarked on a journey of a lifetime across the Sahara Desert in aid of Music Makers.

The team trekked 126km over 6 days across one of the harshest environments on the planet. The challenges were numerous, with temperatures frequently reaching above 40 degrees Celsius, no washing facilities and camping by night with temperatures dropping as low as freezing.

The team walked for up to 8 hours a day through sand storms, rough hamada, midday heat, copious amounts of sand and for many, sore and blistered feet. On reaching camp everynight, the evenings were spent around camp fires under the starlit night sky.Trek Sahara - sunset

Despite the challenges everyone faced, the team spirit fought through with everyone crossing the finish line to the sound of music provided by the local Berber guides and Cameleers.

In order to take part in the challenge, each trekker had to raise money for Music Makers. In total the team raised a fantastic £53,000!
