Consumer Panel

The Classic FM Consumer Panel channels the views and ideas of listeners through to the people who run the station.

The Classic FM Consumer Panel was launched in December 2001 to channel the views and ideas of listeners through to the people who run Classic FM and to follow the way in which the radio station fulfils its commitments to its listeners during the course of the year.

Lord Eatwell, the President of Queens’ College Cambridge and the former chairman of the Commercial Radio Companies Association, is taking up a new role as the chairman of the Classic FM Consumer Panel. Lord Eatwell succeeds Lord Smith of Finsbury, who was recently appointed to the position of Chairman of the ASA.

Composed of listeners, the Classic FM Consumer Panel is unique in commercial radio in giving listeners input into the decision-making at the heart of the station.  Through quarterly meetings with the Classic FM management team, the panel is able to probe, guide and monitor the actions of station management and annually sets a number of formal objectives for the station to aspire to, which are published on the Classic FM website and in the annual report of parent company Global Radio.

This is a ground-breaking initiative for commercial radio. No other radio station has ever embarked on such a specific exercise to consult its listeners and to have consumer input into the decision-making at the heart of the station.
