Join the National Youth Orchestra

The National Youth Orchestra of Great Britain is looking for talented young players and composers with exciting potential to join them on thrilling new musical adventures in 2010.

If you would like to meet, work and play with musicians like yourself, learn from inspiring professionals, make sensational music with wonderful conductors and soloists and make some great friends along the way, the NYO are now holding auditions for new members.

Have you got talent?

The NYO are looking for young musicians with talent and potential. Alongside strong technique, intonation and rhythmic sense, you should have huge energy for making music, an appetite for discovery and adventure, and a great team spirit. Specifically, you should:

  • play an orchestral instrument to a standard equivalent to Grade 8 with distinction (ABRSM/Trinity Guildhall) or higher, although you don’t need to have taken any exams
  • be under 18 on 1 September 2009
  • be a British citizen, or be resident or studying in the British Isles
  • not be studying full time at a college of music

If this sounds like you, the first step is to complete their new online application form at www.nyo.org.uk .

The closing date to apply for the 2010 National Youth Orchestra is Wednesday 1 July 2009. Selected applicants will then be invited for auditions this autumn, and the new NYO will come together for the first time at the end of December 2009.
