Edinburgh International Festival 2010

Artists from California, New York and New England, Mexico, Brazil, Chile, Ecuador, Bolivia, Venezuela, Argentina, Samoa, New Zealand, Australia, as well as Spain, Holland will descend on Edinburgh this summer for an Edinburgh International Festival 2010 which explores the modern-day cultures of the ‘New World’.

The musical highlights this year include the Festival opening concert of John Adams’ El Niño and a brand new Australian opera by Brett Dean, inspired by Peter Carey’s novel Bliss, to be performed by Opera Australia in its European premiere.

There will be a spectacular multi-media production of Gershwin’s Porgy and Bess by Opéra de Lyon and the hip-hop and contemporary dance Compagnie Montalvo-Hervieu, plus the annual spectacular Bank of Scotland Fireworks Concert, this year celebrating music from the movies.

The Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra, The Cleveland Orchestra, Russian National Orchestra, Minnesota Orchestra, Finnish Radio Symphony Orchestra and the Sydney Symphony Orchestra will be performing alongside Scotland’s finest, forming an impressive line-up in The Usher Hall.

Theatre and dance performances include the world premieres of Alistair Beaton’s play Caledonia and flamenco dance work Quimeras from Paco Peña Flamenco Dance Company, Festival debuts from South American theatre companies and a dance programme featuring Brazil, New Zealand and the Pacific Islands.

Festival 2010 runs from 13 August to 5 September. Tickets start at £8 and a large range of discounts are available. Customers aged 26 and under also have access to £8 on-the-day tickets. Booking opens on Saturday 27 March.
