ENO Presents Der Rosenkavalier

Love, passion and romance in an age of chivalry

David McVicar'sclassic staging of Richard Strauss's tale of young love and fading youth makes a welcome return to the London Coliseum stage. Der Rosenkavalier features some of Strauss's most sublime music, from the luscious orchestral prelude to the glittering presentation of the rose scene, the elegant waltzes and the famous final Trio. This together with the splendour of the sumptuous period sets and costumes, promise an evening of sheer romance, beauty and musical brilliance.

ENO’s multi-award-winning Music Director Edward Gardner reprises his outstanding interpretation (The Guardian, 2008) of the great German composer’s romantic score. Lauded by The Observer as ‘one of the glorious Octavians of our time’ Sarah Connolly returns as the dashing ‘Knight of the Rose’. Olivier Award-winning soprano Amanda Roocroft makes her role debut as the worldly Marschallin alongside Sir John Tomlinson as the boorish Baron Ochs. Completing the stellar cast is Andrew Shore as Faninal and Sophie Bevan as the innocent young Sophie.
