Last Night at the Poms
Australian national treasures Dame Edna Everage and Sir Les Patterson - the comedy creation of Barry Humphries CBE will be touring the UK for the first time in 28 years.
Famed for her memorable catchphrases, eccentric dress style and purple rinse, Dame Edna Everage is a household name and now in 2009 still remains very much in the public eye as the face of leading make-up brand M.A.C Cosmetics.
Barry Humphries will soon be bringing her lovable character and that of Australia’s Number One Cultural Supremo, Sir Les Patterson to life in an evening of comedy to the backdrop of Carl Davis's 'Last Night of the Pom's composition.
Accompanying Carl throughout the tour will be some of the UK's finest orchestras - The Orchestra of the Scottish Opera, The Royal Philharmonic Concert Orchestra, The Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra and the Ulster Orchestra - with a 60 piece choir.
Carl Davis CBE says 'This unique collaboration between myself and Barry Humphries was written as a parody on the Proms. Barry and I have waited 28 years to do this concert again, Dame Edna and Sir Les never disappoint.'
This momentous piece was first performed by immediately after the Proms in 1981 - to so much acclaim that after a recent discussion, promoter Harvey Goldsmith CBE and Barry Humphries decided to revive the show and take it on a UK tour.
