Focusing on Paul Delaroche's The Execution of Lady Jane Grey, one of the nation’s best-loved paintings, this exhibition examines how 19th-century French artists found dramatic subject matter in English history. It explores the impact of theatre on Delaroche’s work and features several of his great historical tableaux, preparatory drawings for Lady Jane and comparative paintings and prints by his contemporaries.
