Wynne Evans

Wynne Evans is regularly singing to millions for the TV advertising campaign that has made him a household name in the role of his alter ego, the spoof opera star Gio Compario.

In March 2011, Wynne released his debut album A Song In My Heart with Warner Music, which went to Number 1 in the classical charts. Other strings to his bow include work as a radio and TV presenter. Most recently he sang the role of Piangi in the 25 year anniversary performance of The Phantom of the Opera, which was broadcast live from the Royal Albert Hall to cinemas worldwide and will be released on DVD. His discography also includes a number of CDs with some of the world's greatest orchestras and performers.

Wynne Evans’ recent and future operatic engagements include Vakula The Tsarina’s Slippers for Royal Opera House Covent Garden; Nemorino L’Elisir d’Amore, Cassio Othello, Pedrillo Die Entführung aus dem Serail and Brighella Ariadne auf Naxos for Welsh National Opera; Schoolmaster/Mosquito The Cunning Little Vixen for Grange Park Opera; and Truffaldino L’Amour des Trois Oranges and the Italian Tenor Capriccio for Grange Park Opera.

Born in South Wales, Wynne studied at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama and the National Opera Studio in London. As a principal tenor with Welsh National Opera his many roles included Duca Rigoletto, Rodolfo La Bohème, Alfred Die Fledermaus, Jaquino Leonore, Alfredo La Traviata, Chevalier De La Forge Dialogues des Carmélites, Brighella Ariadne auf Naxos, Tamino The Magic Flute, and Liberto L’incoronazione di Poppea.

He has appeared throughout the UK, with highlights including Paolino The Secret Marriage, Prunier La Rondine and Fenton Falstaff for Opera North; Alfredo La Traviata and Cavaradossi Tosca for English National Opera and Tamino The Magic Flute and The Italian Tenor Der Rosenkavalier for Scottish Opera.

Wynne has collaborated with the nation’s première ensembles, including The Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, Orchestra of Welsh National Opera and City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra, Halle, London Symphony Orchestra and City of London Sinfonia. His many recital credits have included Wigmore Hall, The Royal Albert Hall, St. David’s Hall Cardiff, Symphony Hall Birmingham and Bridgewater Hall Manchester.
