Simon Keenlyside
Biography
Born in London, the baritone studied Zoology at Cambridge before making his operatic debut at the Hamburg State Opera as Count Almaviva.
Since then, he has performed throughout Europe and the world in varies operas, including Figaro, Papageno, Hamlet and Pelleas and in 1995 he received the Singer of the Year Award both from the Critics Circle and the Royal Philharmonic Society.
Music
Simon enjoys extensive concert and recital work, most recently he has appeared with the Israel Philharmonic, the Chamber Orchestra of Europe and the Berlin Philharmonic in Salzburg and Berlin and the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra in London and Vienna under Sir Simon Rattle.
With EMI Classics, Keenlyside has recorded two albums featuring works by Schubert and Strauss with Malcolm Martineau under Sir Simon Rattle.
He has also played Mercutio in Gounod's Romeo et Juliette with Roberto Alagna , Angela Gheorghiu, and Michel Plasson conducting the Orchestre du Capitole de Toulouse.
