Music From The Vatican – Alma Mater

A Muslim, an agnostic and a Catholic composer came together in 2009 to write the music for one of the most unusual classical album releases to feature in the NS&I; Album of the Year category at the Classical BRIT Awards.

The album, featuring the voice of Pope Benedict XVI recorded during His Marian pilgrimages by Vatican Radio was released in November 2009. The recording also features the Choir of the Philharmonic Academy of Rome conducted by Monsignor Pablo Colino, and the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra.

The three composers - Simon Boswell (a Brit of 'undeclared' religious belief), Stefano Mainetti (a Rome-born Roman Catholic) and Nour Eddine (a Moroccan and Muslim) - brought traditions of Gregorian chant and Arabic melody harmoniously together with a unique and modern score
