On the Red Carpet at the Classical BRITS
On Thursday 13 May, the stars of the classical music world were out in force for the 11th annual Classical BRIT Awards with NS&I.
The glittering line-up of international stars and performers included such legends as Dame Kiri Te Kanawa, Angela Georghiu and Rolando Villazon alongside newcomers Rhydian, Camilla Kerslake and Only Men Aloud.
Classic FM was there to capture the glamour and excitement of the night, speaking to many of the artists as they arrived on the chilly May evening at London's Royal Albert Hall. You can listen to the interviews below...
Currently starring in Wagner's Meistersinger at Welsh National Opera, the welsh baritone was given the night off to attend the awards. Terfel was nominated in the Male Artist of the Year category, but told Classical FM that he was more looking forward to performing live on stage.
Another Welsh singer, Rhydian Roberts was definitely a contender for the best dressed on the night in his bespoke Richard Anderson-tailored red suit. He told us about his 'sparkly number'.
The boys from Blake explained why they decided to do something 'crazy and different' and arrive in style at the Classical BRIT Awards.
The double-nominated teenager told us that in spite of being up against nine other acts in the NS&I Album of the Year category, Faryl told Classic FM how all the nominees were good friends.
Looking dazzling in expensive jewels, Hayley told us how thrilled she was for fellow Kiwi Dame Kiri Te Kanawa.
Howard's special arrangement of Nessum Dorma proved to be a challenge with 13 singers to conduct, but he had every confidence that his Enchanted Voices would reach the top notes with no problems!
Only a few months ago, Camilla was making her Royal Albert Hall debut with Classic FM. She chatted to us ahead of her first ever Classical BRIT Awards.
Hostess for the evening, Myleene was flanked by security guards because of the diamonds on display, "If I think too much about how much they cost I'd get nervous," she told us, before adding that daughter Ava had tried them on in her dressing room.
Getting to performing with Rhydian one of their album tracks O Verona was a highlight for the male choir. To be named amongst the nominees for NS&I Album of the Year was another great honour.
You can watch the performance on ITV1 from 22:35 on Tuesday 18 May 2010.
