Hear Here!
Hear Here! continues to embark on a journey of discovery, exploring the experience of listening to music to the end of 2009 and beyond...
Presented by the Royal Philharmonic Society and Classic FM and supported by the Paul Hamlyn Foundation, Hear Here! has encouraged people to take a more active approach to listening to music and to experience new aspects of music you may never have noticed before.
For the last two years, we have explored a different key work of classical music and investigated the different aspects of the listening process and a big thanks to everyone who took part and took the time to really listen on National Listening Day on Tuesday 17 November .
From the many emails we received it sounded like lots of you took the time out to engage with the wide range of music we played on the day. Here are a few of your comments:
"I have been switched my radio dial from pop chart stations to you, and I have been delighted. Given that today is National Listening Day, it seems amusing and appropriate that a friend in Texas should send me an email about Joshua Bell playing in a Washington DC subway station - and very few people stopped! It was part of an experiment in perception - how, why and in what context people are prepared to appreciate beauty. Shocking results! Just thought you would appreciate "hearing" about it!"
"I have always listened to pop/hip hop and dance but now I'm hooked to Classic FM as it makes me feel good. Just to let you know, I work with tough teenagers and I put Classic FM on for them, too. The atmosphere totally changed. One lad turned to me yesterday, after hearing an amazing, dramatic piece, and said (in his words), "thas was amazing!" I now have them hooked as well - something I never thought was possible! "
