Il Divo named Artist of the Decade

Il Divo will receive a special ‘Artist of the Decade’ award at the Classic BRIT Awards 2011. The classical boyband will also give the world premiere of a song from their forthcoming album at the ceremony.

The first ever recipients of this special recognition BRIT, Il Divo will collect their award at the Royal Albert Hall on 12 May. This will be the first time that they have performed live in the UK since 2008.

In introducing the ‘Artist of the Decade’ award especially, the UK’s recorded music association, the BPI, recognises Il Divo’s massive impact worldwide. They are ‘the most successful international musical break-out story of this millennium’, having sold more than 25 million albums and received over 150 gold and platinum awards in 33 countries.

Also successful on stage, Il Divo have sold in excess of two million concert tickets and their second world tour, ‘An Evening With Il Divo’, encompassed 130 dates across six continents. One of the biggest grossing tours of the year, it earned them the ‘Billboard Breakthrough Award’.

David Miller from Il Divo comments on the award:
