The Music Blog - 28 June
AM and am sat at home, taking in the A-Z of Classic FM Music which, this week, is doing an opera special.
A full, mini A-Z within an A-Z, with Mr J for James playing some wonderful selections, from Puccini , Mozart and even Gilbert and Sullivan.
Later the same evening, I sit and watch the coverage of Glastonbury from a mudless vantage point in my front room. There, on screen, riding the foldback speaker like it were an upturned skateboard, is Classic FM’s Alex James , Fender Precision bass in hand, looking as cool as a cucumber in front of a clearly ecstatic and, let’s not forget it, MASSIVE crowd.
As he switches to a traditional double bass for the choral-infused 'Tender', I sit with a beaming smile, relishing the moment. It’s as if Sunday’s lesson, so to speak, is an old, simple one.
Great music is great music.
