The Classic FM Guide to Twitter

If you're baffled by Twitter, here's a very simple explanation of what it is and how you can sign up. We also give examples of musicians using it.

Twitter is the latest social networking phenomenon, a micro-blogging tool that allows you to ‘follow’ someone’s updates to keep track of what they’re up to.

It’s very simple to get started. You just log on to Twitter.com, create a profile and start ‘tweeting’.

'Tweets' are a maximum of 140 characters long and can include links out to other websites and pictures.

You can choose which other Twitter community members to follow, including your favourite musicians, celebrities or politicians - and they may even start following you!

If you sign up to Twitter you'll be able to keep up to date with all that's going on in the classical music world.  Aside from following Classic FM (Twitter name: classicfm ), you can also follow many musicians including the following:

Stephen Hough: houghhough
Katherine Jenkins: kjofficial
André Rieu: andrerieu
Sarah Chang: sarahchang
Patrick Hawes: patrickhawes
Chloe Hanslip: chloe_hanslip
Only Men Aloud: onlymenaloud
Eric Whitacre: ericwhitacre
Hayley Westenra: HayleyWestenra
Danielle de Niese: Danielledeniese

and many more...
