Ferdinand Withdraws Appeal

Manchester United defender Rio Ferdinand has withdrawn his appeal against the extra one-game ban he was given for a frivolous appeal as he looks to stay in favour with the FA.
Ferdinand was given a three game ban for violent conduct following an incident with Craig Fagan of Hull City in January.
United appealed the decision and as a result of new laws, Ferdinand was given an extra game on his ban for a 'frivolous' appeal. Old Trafford had wanted to make a stand against the FA by appealing the extra game.
The case was due to be heard on Friday and last week Sir Alex Ferguson indicated a desire to contest the penalty.
However, that was before Ferdinand was appointed as England captain by Fabio Capello. Rather than risk facing the FA so soon, Sky News understands the 31-year-old has opted to accept his punishment.
Manchester United take on Aston Villa at Villa Park on Wednesday.
