There's a glaring absence at this year's Edinburgh International Festival. Sir Charles Mackerras, who died in July, had been due to conduct at the event. There's a tribute to Mackerras this evening as part of a concert given by the Sydney Symphony Orchestra, and conducted by Vlademir Ashkenazy. Festival director, Jonathan Mills pays his own tribute and explains why Sir Charles would have enjoyed this year's Edinburgh Festival so much.
