Film fans may know Sir Ian McKellen as Gandalf in the Lord of the Rings or Magneto in X Men, but theatregoers have been able to revel in a stage career that spans 50 years and all the great classical roles. McKellen spent much of 2009 touring the country in a new production of Samuel Beckett's Waiting for Godot, which has just started a run at the Theatre Royal, Haymarket in London. He tells Mark what the play has in common with The Goons and the plans in place for a reappearance of Gandalf. Also on the programme, English tenor Toby Spence who’s starring in The Rake’s Progress at the Royal Opera House.
