Alan Rusbridger

Guardian Editor Alan Rusbridger joins Classic FM broadcasting the brand new weekend show ‘Beyond the Hall of Fame’.

Biography

Having started out at The Cambridge Evening News, Alan quickly worked his way to the top, joining The Guardian in 1979. He became the paper's Diary Columnist and regular Feature Writer, later going on to work as a Reporter, Features Editor and Deputy Editor.

After a stint away - working most notably as a critic for The Observer and Washington Editor of the London Daily News, Alan returned to The Guardian in 1987. His return immediately sparkled foreword thinking changes, launching Guardian Weekend and the paper's ever popular G2 section. Alan was also involved with overseeing the launch of Guardian Unlimited and subsequently became Editor in 1995.

In addition, Alan is also Executive Editor of The Observer, a member of the board of Guardian News and Media, of the main board of the Guardian Media Group and the Scott Trust.

But it doesn't end there. Dabbling in fields aside from journalism of which he is regarded one of his generations finest; Alan has written three children's books as well as co-authoring with Ronan Bennett the BBC Drama, Fields of Gold. Since 2004 he has been Chairman of the National Youth Orchestra and assisting in providing a bright future for promising classical musicians nationwide.

Alan makes his Classic FM debut at 9pm on Saturday 15 August in a new 12-part series - Beyond the Hall of Fame .
