Alessio Bax: Bach Transcribed
It's a sign of the brilliance of J.S. Bach that great pianists have chosen to recreate and reinterpret his works in so many ways.
From Saint-Saens' take on a violin partita to Wilhelm Kempff’s subtle resetting of Wachet Auf, these performances by the Italian pianist Alessio Bax capture the beauty of Bach’s music in thirteen great transcriptions.
In April this year, Bax was awarded the Avery Fischer Career Grant for 2009, presented once a year to talented instrumentalists who show great potential for solo careers. He follows in the footsteps of previous winners Joshua Bell, Hilary Hahn and Gil Shaham.
