Lang Lang
Biography
Lang Lang is the first Chinese pianist to be engaged by the Berliner Philharmoniker, the Wiener Philharmoniker, and all 'Big Five' American orchestras.
He has performed in all the world’s major music venues, been the subject of a best-selling biography and received numerous awards for his outstanding contribution to classical music.
A talented musician from an early age, Lang Lang's breakthrough in the West came in 1999 when he was 17. A last-minute substitution for an indisposed André Watts at the Ravinia Festival's 'Gala of the Century', Lang Lang played Tchaikovsky's Piano Concerto No. 1 with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, conducted by Christoph Eschenbach.
Music
A Steinway artist, Lang Lang records for Deutsche Grammophon, with whom he has released many albums and numerous classical music DVDs.
His latest release, Beethoven Piano Concertos Nos 1-4, is a reading of the extensive Concerto no. 4 and the jubilant Concerto no. 1.
